Banderivci

Banderivci – is contemptuous word, which, mainly Russians and Poles, gave to people, who live in Western Ukraine. The word comes from Stepan Bandera – the leader of Ukrainian nationalists in the mid-20th century.
The organization also included UPA - Ukrainian Rebel Army.
Members of the organization wanted to give Ukraine Independence even during World War 2. Imprisoning Bandera by Germans, war between members of organization against Poles, and later against the Soviet NKVD troops, assassination of organization members, made by Russia, led to the defeat of the liberation struggle of OUN (Ukrainian Nationalists Organization) in the mid-50s of the 20th century.
About OUN members written many books, published their memoirs and diaries, liberation movement is studied.

Today a word “Banderivets” used to insult Ukrainian patriots who speak Ukrainian language, wear traditional clothing or live in Western Ukraine. In some countries, under the influence of propaganda, the people impose the view that Banderivci – people who live in Western Ukraine – are cruel and stupid. But it's a lie. We just love our country!
