Ukrainian Royal girls



Did you know that the Ukrainian women were members of royal families in very different states? I'll write about the most famous. Want to know more - find)
Known and popular among the French was Queen Anne - wife of French King Henry 1 Capet and mother of the future King Philip 1.

Anna was the daughter of Grand Prince Yaroslav the Wise. Yaroslav the Wise was a leader of Kyiv Rus from 1015 to 1054.
Anna was one of the daughters of Yaroslav, who married with European influential Princes. In 1051, in the cathedral of Reims Anna married and became the Queen of France. She got the name of Agnes.
Anna was a Queen till her husband's death in 1060 year, and in 1066 Anna, the first among the queens of France, was regent for his son Philip.
Queen Anne was educated. Her signatures on documents written in Latin were preserved. Well known is the Reims Gospel (Jevangelie), a holy book, which Anna had brought with her from Kyiv.
Also she founded the monastery of Saint Vincent in Senlis.

Have you heard about Nastya Lisowska? Perhaps you've heard of Roxolana? Roxolana or Hyurrem was the wife of Ottoman Empire Sultan Suleiman 1 and mother to Sultan Selim 2.

Nastya was the daughter of a priest from the western-Ukrainian city Rohatyn. During one of the campaigns she was captured by Crimean Tatars.

From the period of 1517-1520 years she lived in a harem of Sultan Suleiman. In the harem she received the name Hyurrem - funny. Later she became the favorite concubine of the Sultan, and in 1534 became the wife of the Sultan. Nastya Lisowska (Hyurrem Sultan) gave birth to 6 Suleiman’s children. She lived up to 1558.

In the West she is called Roksolana because she came from a territory which was called Roksolania and residents were called Roksolany.
She established a charitable foundation, and she gave money to build the Aksaray district of Istanbul with mosque, madrasas, schools and hospitals, large public bath in Istanbul, dining room for the sick, homeless and pilgrims, complexes in Adrianople and Ankara.
Many books and movies were devoted to Roksolana’s life.

Catherine (Kateryna) Desnytska was born in 1886 in Lutsk (North-Western Ukraine). She is known because she was a Siam princess, wife of Chakrabongse Bhuvanath, Prince of Phitsanulok.
They met during the Russo-Japanese war. Catherine was a nurse and Prince was an Imperial Guards soldier.
The couple married in 1906 and 2 years later they had a son Chula - the next heir to the throne.

In 1910, Catherine officially became Princess of Siam under the name Na Phitsanulok.
The couple divorced in 1919. Catherine could not admit another Chakrabongse’s wife, and in mid 1919 went to his brother in Shanghai, where she worked at the Red Cross. Later, after Prince’s death, she bought a house in Shanghai, where she lived with an American electrician Gary Clinton. They married and in early 1930 moved to Portland (USA). After WW2 she moved to France, where he lived with his her brother's widow and her children until her last days in 1960.
